Windows XP comes with Movie Maker, which can be used to perform basic editing actions, like trimming videos, extracting scenes and so on, but the later editions do not provide any tools for this purpose. Fortunately, you can find everything you need on the Internet. In this case, you can use GiliSoft Video Editor to crop, trim or join videos, convert them and perform many other operations. Although the software has a simple design, its features can satisfy anyone, from beginners to advanced users.

Installing GiliSoft Video Editor on a Windows-powered computer is not a challenging task. Its setup file is roughly 12 and a half MB and the installation procedure does not involve anything else than agreeing to the terms and conditions, selecting a destination folder or creating desktop shortcuts. The software can be used on Windows XP or any later edition, up to Windows 8 and it provides support for both 32 and 64-bit operating systems.

The main user interface was made to look like the Windows 8 Start screen. All options are displayed as colored squares and rectangles. Each option will display a series of tools, on a separate window, which can be used to crop videos, add effects, subtitles or watermarks, cut or join videos and more. Certain options will display the same editing panel, on which you can perform several operations, on separate tabs, so you don't need to return to the main interface if you wish to perform certain actions.

The software provides several cutting utilities. You can find an easy cutter, an advanced one and a batch cutter. The advanced cutter is displayed on the same window as the cropping, watermarking, rotating and other utilities. It allows you to select a segment on the video's timeline and you can choose to keep it or remove it. Additionally, you can store the trimmed video in a different format.

The converter doesn't come with conversion options, but it allows you to cut several pieces from the same video. Alternatively, you can load several videos in the batch cutter and trim them on the same window. A similar tool is the video splitter, which can be used to break down a video into several pieces of the same size, with the same length, and so on.

All tools are easy to use, so you won't encounter any kind of difficulties. GiliSoft Video Editor also provides support for all popular video formats, including AVI, MPEG, SWF, MOV, WMV and others. It presents them in numerous conversion profiles, for all sorts of devices, like smart phones, tablets, gaming consoles and so on.

Pros

The software places a good number of tools at your disposal, for cropping and trimming videos, converting them and more. It supports numerous media formats, which are neatly organized according to their supporting devices.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to mention. If you want to make your videos shorter, join them with others or convert them, GiliSoft Video Editor will help you with any operation you wish to perform.
